the spring break we'll remember forever ...

Dear Mack, Ava & Sofia,

I'm not quite sure you really understand what "spring break" is really all about.

You know that it's a time to play, explore, and seek adventure.

You know it usually involves going somewhere.

And after this spring break, you understand that it's a treasured time with family that is sometimes just doesn't make sense.

Thank you for being playful, for being creative, and for being patient.

Things didn't quite go as planned during this week of our lives, but soon enough you'll realize that when we make plans , it's really our way of trying to control things that are really not in our control at all to begin with. We're funny that way ... planning things to go one way only to have them really go the way God had them planned all along.

You love Whidbey Island just as much as we all do - and your childhood vacations have been spent combing these beaches filled with drift wood and pebbles for as long as you can probably remember.

The park below the condo is one of your favorite places to be, and it's an added bonus that there are bike paths for you to pedal back and forth the shore as fast as you can. There are monkey bars, and slides, and even little tunnels with telephone tubes to talk through. Yep, it's pretty much every child's dream.

Thank you for picking up pebbles ...

for smiling on cue ...

for running up & down the docks ...

for sitting in the waiting room for hours at a time ...

and for spreading joy wherever you went.

You spent the week of "vacation" doing everything you could to allow the rest of us savor the gifts of each day ... which had you three at the top of the list over and over again!

Loving you at ages 6 & 3,

~ all of us
