Today is your birthday. The beginning of another year of {you}.
I've struggled with knowing what to do for you to make this 22nd day of February special for you ... and now that it's here, I find myself in this really weird place.
I've wrapped lots of fun presents for you {from the boys}.
I've purchased a special dessert just for you.
I've written in your card.
and ...
I've reflected {a lot} on the 7+ years I've known you.
You. Unique and original - YOU!
...................................................
It's been a rough month in our house.
We've been going, running, driving, chasing, crawling, screaming, crying, praying, begging, pleading ... here, there and everywhere.
We've all had to adjust to living under one roof again.
We've struggled with finding our groove, and somehow, someway, your birthday got thrown into the middle of it all.
.....................................................
I'm a
huge fan of birthdays.
I love celebrating the lives of others.
I love decorating, planning, and singing.
But to be honest, today {feb. 22} was hard.
The past week has been hard.
We've passed each other in the kitchen, seen each other a few mornings, and managed to eat a few dinners together - but not much else.
We've struggled with our boys.
We've struggled with commitments.
We've struggled with communicating.
....................................................
and ... as I attempted to plan for this day of {you} ... I found myself just wanting to do nothing.
Nothing {with you}.
I wanted and wished for a day with {nothing}.
No calves with broken legs.
No flat tires.
No frustrating conversations.
No cold & wet rain.
No chaos.
Why, oh why, can we never have a day that is just {normal}?
This day to celebrate YOU, was anything BUT nothing.
...................................................
Nothing.
That was {and still is} my wish for you. For us.
And tonight - after the chaos finally came to a halt - I sat across the table from you and felt peace.
Finally.
We had bacon, eggs, and biscuits for dinner. {your birthday dinner wish}
It wasn't fancy ... but it was good.
We laughed with our boys.
We laughed at each other.
You ate your triple scoop dish of Tillamook ice cream from the McDonald's drive-thru that I bought you this afternoon ... and even without the candle - it was {perfect}.
...........................................

.....................................................
Everything in the world seemed right tonight.
The night of our celebration of {you}.
.....................................................
The chaos will always be there.
The frustrations won't go away.
The struggles with committing to things and communicating ... they will get better.
And my love for you - sweet husband of mine - will continue to grow!

Happy Birthday Ian ~ ♥ me ... your biggest fan!
