the lingering dust.

There is this thing about living on a gravel road.
This thing that you just don't get until you've found yourself living through the dust and dirt of it all.
This thing that magically becomes a part of you that you wouldn't trade for anything.
And it only happens during certain parts of the day and in only certain parts of the year.

It's usually in the early morning or right at dusk when the sun begins to make its way into your world or right out to the other side of the world.

It can be missed or not seen at all because of the crazy, rushed, busy lives most of us lead - driving, doing, cooking, cleaning, bossing ... you get my drift.
But once you see it ... you never want to miss it again.

It's that mist-like "hover" of protection that seems to hang on to every ounce of life it has before disappearing.

It's the feeling of love and warmth and "home" that I've learned to embrace.

...............

This time of year - when the days begin to offer warmth and the night comes cool and clear - is just the beginning of another season of {hovering dust}.

And as that warmth tiptoes out of the day and I look out on the horizon and see that dust just lingering ... trying to hold on to the last bits of day, I'm going to grab the piece of paper next to me or the journal that is filling  beyond 1000...

 and I'm going to remember that there is so much - so very, very much - to be thankful for.

the Championship track meet of 2011.

Saturday was beautiful ... in so many different ways.

Mason had a GREAT day at his last and final track meet of 2011.

He had his best jump of the season:  6'11". {3rd place overall - out of 33}

He had his best throw of the season: 19'4" ... just with the wrong hand. {go figure}

Papa Gary cheered him on!!

He had is best 50 meter time:  9.95  {3rd place overall - out of 38)

He had his best 100 meter time:  20.33 {4th overall - out of 24}

He even had his best mom with him!  Funny how that works out.

His dad was there too ... just not in any pictures.

and a Mor-Mor

and his cousins ... and his brother

and his aunt Kirsten too!

Yep - I'd say it was a fabulous final day of his first season of track!!

five on friday.

1.  We {especially Mack and I} love jello ...  and somehow I magically came across this blog post from this really great cooking and craft site.  Such great ideas and recipes!!
Can you guess what we'll be enjoying in the very near future?!

2.  I had the craziest, busiest, fullest, funnest, hardest, most tiring week of May so far ... oh wait, it's just the first week.  Bring on the next 25 days!

3.  I'm looking forward to greeting my parents, my sister and my nieces in this driveway tonight ... and a {full} weekend ahead.

4.  I love tulips.  Love them.  Especially when they're hand delivered with love all the way from Albany by Becky.
.

5. Surprise visits are one of life's greatest joys.  Margaritas on Cinco de Mayo are too.  I got to be a part of both with two of my favorite ladies {Francie and Becky} last night.  Joy indeed.

on the horizon of {1000}.

Did you know that some kings in 2 Chronicles are described in a few as nine verses and others command as much as four chapters?

Hmmm.

How many verses or chapters would be written about our leaders today?

My daily Bible says it best: God’s Word is not blind to the failures of His children, but neither is it stingy in its praise of those who lived out their faith day by day.

Living out faith.

Day by day.

Something that often seems as impossible, but in God’s strength can be done.

The thing I’ve found most interesting is that there are so many kings who were given favor from the Lord ... but with the favor came a lot of pride … which often led to pollution. They had it all and traded it for hurt and sorrow and self.

Why do we throw away the goodness we’re given from the Lord thinking there might be something better?

How can we receive His blessings day after day and then suddenly think that we’re the reason for the blessings? That we've done all of this on our own - really?

These kings I’ve been reading about were given much and in turn, much was required. Some lived in prosperity during their reign – because they chose to live in obedience to the Lord. Some brought the nation to their knees in pain and suffering.

The sentence to complete on April 29th was this: “The hero of the faith from 2 Chronicles I most admire is ____________ because ______________.

I haven’t answered it yet … but I'm pulling for Hezekiah right now.

and ...

Although I am no king {or queen} and I have no place in royalty ... I can still live in obedience to the Lord. And by choosing obedience ... the pages (and hopefully chapters) of my history book will be marked with valiant effort in living out my faith ... day by day by day.

Catching and capturing and using a pen or pencil to mark down that which has made my life a life of faith.
